This statement is so timely. I thought I loved peperomias. I just got back to Fresno, and they are my only plants that had major problems while I was gone. Even the ones in the humidity zone. Rather than being upset, I just feel annoyed and done. When I have a second, I'm trading them all away. Bastards.

Nick Pileggi lied to me! He swears they’re easy and the best plants ever.

I chopped up my marble queen and now I'm all  waiting for it to grow roots. I put half in a takeout container of sphagnum moss that's under a grow light (with some watermelon peperomia leaves that do not seem to be doing anything) and half on a windowsill just in water.
And my newest project is a little bug eating bog. I've gotten as far as purchasing flytraps and cape sundews. I'm on the hunt for a container to put it all in, but I think I want it on a windowsill so I'm having a hard time finding something more oblong. Either way the sundews are so cute and one of my new faves.

Does anyone want a little baby golden pothos? Very basic, very small (like 6 leaves) but free to a good home.
And Melanie seems to have forgiven me. She’s flowering!

Side note: I love Greg (the plant app). It makes you name your plants which is dumb but also so fun. I haven’t killed anything I added to it, really helps me not love to death (aka overwater) my plants.

If nobody claims it, I might be willing to do a trade depending on what I have at home.

I can try to root a couple other kinds of pothos if you want them all.
I don’t need to trade anything. I just grew it because I could and now I don’t know what to do with it.
Same for approx 1 million baby succs.

Liking in solidarity! I have approximately 2 billion peperomia babies because I geeked out about propagating straight from leaves.

In related news, anyone interested in peperomia babies?

@Lh718 I want peperomia babies! Unfortunately I have nothing to trade, but I saw some 3D Montsera stickers a while ago that spoke to me as something for you.

Okay, finally got the plants organized. Pics of peps that I'm ready to send out! Frosts (I think), gray, and owl eyes. I also have a ton of tradescantia if anyone is interested.

I really feel that it's more the propping than actual plant care that I love! I do love my plants, but there's nothing like seeing the new roots pop out.

    Baby plants! They're so cute!

I 'rescued' like 3 leaves of a lemon lime philo (one trailer that had broken off) from the grocery store and I check on it at least twice a day. It has so many roots and is about to push out a couple new leaves!

On the subject. Is a lemon lime philo rare?! I did not think so, but one local plant shop is selling a 3' baby for $20 as rare. But she is also selling 3' cebu blue and emerald pothos for $30 and $35 (cuttings for $10 and $15 per node) so maybe she's just catering to her audience.

Whine: I've been looking for a hoya kerii forever and they are so stupid expensive. I don't want a leaf that will never grow for $10, but I'm also not going to pay $50 for a small plant (or more for the variegated because I don't like it).

@CoolWife no, lemon lime philo is not rare. Neither is charging too much for it, lol. I have healthy Kerii and can send you cuttings if you want!

I think I'm too impatient to prop plants. I stick pieces into soil and forget about it until it either shrivels up or pushes out a new leaf.

I'm all about water props aside from peps, which I put directly into soil. I'm also finally learning how to do moss props. Before, there was too much mold, so I experimented with soaking a bunch in bleach water then rinsing with distilled. I have some mystery sticks growing!

Wait what’s this about mold? I’ve only had stuff in moss for a couple weeks. I usually do water too, but I end up with little glasses all over and have to put them in plain sight or I forget to check/change them.
@Lh718 or anyone else want philo Brazil? Mine would probably benefit from a bit of a trim.

@CoolWife when I first started, all my moss props got moldy and rotten within days. Turns out I either bought shitty moss and/or this apt is a giant mold spore. I tried again and this time sterilized my moss and used distilled water. No more mold!

No Brazil for me, but I'll take your golden off your hands!

@Afishwish message me your address! Actually anyone who wants a plant or 2, message me. I'm running out of room here!

My marble queens have all grown roots, and the ones in the moss are twice as big as the water. But ofc now the roots are getting moldy, which is a problem I didn’t have using soil in the same container.
How long did you have to soak/rinse it? That may be my afternoon project.

  21. Lh718

    Lh718 Chicken

@CoolWife not very long at all. I just made sure all of it was soaking wet, squished and swirled the whole clump for a minute, then rinsed and soaked and squished with distilled water until the moss stopped smelling strongly of the bleach. It was probably overkill, but the mold was so fast before!

The mold on the roots shouldn't be detrimental if it's the first sign. Swirl it around in some hydrogen peroxide then rinse the bubbles off.

I found the cutest little ric rac/fishbone/orchid cactus at Trader Joe’s. Of course it has mites in closer inspection so it’s in quarantine.

D finally hung up my birthday present. And I got a baby pink princess for a semi-reasonable price. Third one was @Lh718’s kerii (❤️❤️) that refuses to grow roots. It’s since back in the moss prop box and idk what to put there.

I swear one day I'll go to the post office @Lh718. The emerald is happily growing roots and a new leaf here. The kerii are both growing now, the var just took forever to start its one little root. The green one has put out one and almost another new set of tiny <3 leaves.

Went to the farmer's market and brought home a string of turtles for $5 today. So cute! My SOH is flowering and it's so fucking weird! I have it on top of the front door and it must like it there because it's grown long enough to get shut in the door (no worries, I moved it over) and then some in a few weeks. Now the flowers. So bizarre. Especially given how easy it was to kill the first one I bought.

My recent project has been (slowly...) making sure everything is happy for the winter, chopping and propping some pothos and my brazil, and getting rid of most of my succulents. I bought a bunch of cute grower's pots on Amazon but now I need to sell them for $1 to pay for my pots and soil. And I put enough of them outside and bought more inside that I'm out of room, so.... it's going to be a struggle here soon.

My baby PPP is still alive and growing too! I'm so relieved, lol. It's about to pop out its second new leaf since I got it and they've all grown. The seller was insistent it stay in the tiny pot for the winter so I'll just have to find a good home for it in the spring.

No rush whatsoever @CoolWife ! I'm on a similar winterizing and downsizing effort here myself.

Two of my monstera albo sticks are finally showing signs of life! I'm giddy that I haven't yet killed them. There's still time, but imma savor this moment.
