Stop at Knaus Berry Farm on the way to/from FLL for cinnamon rolls and strawberry milkshakes.

The boat tours out of the Flamingo Visitor Center are worth it and kid friendly if you have time to/from FLL: https://www.nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/flamdirections.htm

Feeding the tarpon at Robbie's in Islamorada is super touristy but I bet the littles will love it.

The restaurants at Hawks Cay Resort are good. Some are pricy so look at the menu before making a decision.

I will think some more. I have a lot of recs if you go to Key West at all.

@Zombie Llama Oh man the Flamingo boat tour does look good but we’re just barely missing the close of the main open season, I’ll have to check if they’re open. I’m guessing this is part of Everglades National Park? That would be cool to hit since we love visiting national parks but this trip we may actually not see any of the three (I believe it’s three) in FL. We have a life jacket of course for E but we’re just unfamiliar with if she would like being on a boat and behave if it turned out to be a long trip and also just the anxiety of what if something happened. Obviously I just need to read a lot of reviews about people taking their kids on specific tours, I’m sure it’s okay.

We will drive down and hang out in Key West one of the days we’re there if you have any “don’t miss” activities down there. The idea will be maybe we all grab a bite to eat together then we split up for the people who want to go to bars versus more kid-friendly stuff. But things that are both are great too!

I’ve never been, but would love to go. I’m looking forward to seeing your pics and hearing about your trip!

I don't really have any Marathon specific recs because we always stay in Islamorada or south. I have been to the Marathon Seafood Festival before - that would be a good way to spend a couple of hours if it's happening when you're in town. In Islamorada, Robbie's that ZL mentioned or Lorelei's are good stops. No Name Pub on No Name Key is a little hard to find, but has good pizza.

In Key West, the sunset celebration at Mallory Square is fun to check out. There are a lot of street performers. We love Blue Heaven for brunch. The Green Parrot Bar is a fave too. And of course, you've got to go get the touristy family pic in front of the Southernmost Point. There's a lot of other family friendly stuff, but I've never been to any of it so I can't speak for/against it.

The boat is a pontoon boat, and there were a TON of kids on it. I think E would be fine.

Shark Valley (also Everglades) is out of your way, but it is a tram tour if you are worried about the boat. You see a zillion alligators in Shark Valley.

Cool. We did a swamp tour when we went to NOLA a few years back and it was super awesome but I would never take a toddler lol.

Ooh @Comet what is Islamorada like? I keep getting FB ads for a half marathon there.

We like it a lot, but we also always go with a boat so we are out on the water pretty much the whole time. I can't really speak for the restaurants & attractions that aren't accessible by water. You should totally do that race though...when is it?

Just be aware that it can be very hot in December and there is generally no shade in the Keys.

Good point. It’s early December. I will look at average temps etc. I do ok in heat if it isn’t extreme (above 95 is not great).

I hope September will be a better time to travel because we are planning a trip to Vermont and Maine. We were able to get flights to and from Boston for $300 for both of us.

We just cancelled our August trip and our December cruise. August was supposed to be a 9 day fun trip to several big things around the northeast and to see A’s family. Now we will just come up when the memorial is and probably do something shorter. I also don’t wanna go to crowded places yet then like amusement parks.

Our cruise I am keeping the flights/hotels but don’t wanna be stuck with a non-refundable cruise during a second wave. We can rebook I bet at a lower rate if things look better closer to time, and our flights are miles so its no different to cancel now or closer so I am fine sitting on them.

We were planning a big 2021 CA trip but I’m not booking anything yet.

Those sound like smart decisions but I’m sorry <3 On the cruise front, based on the emails i am getting, I’m quite sure there will be really good deals down the road.

@whatchyagonnado I totally get cancelling and not wanting to risk being out the money. We are supposed to spend 4th of July in Alaska but our bucket list trip may have to be postponed.

It sucks so much @whatchyagonnado . I keep telling myself it’s going to be better by late summer but probably not.

Yeah, my friends with weddings through the summer have cancelled. Sucks hard, especially since they’re all going into residency and have no idea when they’ll have time again.

The wedding I’m supposed to shoot overseas in July still hasn’t canceled, even though their venue is closed indefinitely. I get that they’re hopeful it’ll still happen, but it bugs me that if I pull out for my safety, they’ll be left in a lurch.

Ooh, yikes. One of the weddings cancelled was in Scotland at a castle and I know it was a nightmare to coordinate the vendors in the first place, so I know she wanted to believe it’d be okay, but I’m glad she made the call so friends/family/vendors didn’t have to.

Either way, I’ll refund their retainer (I don’t have to, but it’s the decent thing to do). I just would hate for them to have to find someone else at the last minute.

You’re very kind. If you have anyone you know in the area they’re headed to, maybe recommend them? (Like you found our photographer lol).
