Yaaaaay Shakes! So happy for you!
I get being disappointed at not getting your top pick, but there’s a lot to be said for staying put right now
Congratulations @shakespeer !!!
Congratulations, shakes! So many feels!
Perhaps some familiarity is a good thing during this crazy time. I’m glad it’s somewhere you are happy.
Woohoo! Congrats Shakes!!
I’m sorry you didn’t get your first choice, but glad you don’t have to move right now. Obvs they want to keep you once they know you!
He is. He was also on board with trying a new place, especially since he doesn’t feel like he’s made a lot of his “own” friends here, but he’s also at peace with the fact that he’s going to have to try a bit harder to get involved and find those opportunities for himself.
There are big pluses to staying here too - we love the local soccer team and he adores sports, both of which are way more prominent here. My closest med school friend and her husband are here, my extended family is around, we love the arts community, and yes, it’s way way easier not to move to a different state.
I think I just needed some time. Even just having a couple of hours, I’m way more excited about it. And some of the clinicians I’ve worked with reached out to say how excited they are, which makes me so happy.
I was gonna say, you clearly made a very positive impression for them to want to keep you around! I’d take that as a testament to you as a person and a professional!
I mean- and what an absolutely astounding accomplishment. So many people say pre med and then for whatever reason, do something else.
What happens next??
Next, I do a little bit of online coursework to finish up rotations, graduate in May, and report June 10th for orientation. First day on the job will be June 23rd!
Someone DMed me to ask if I provide photography training or interning and now I feel like a superstar.
Guys, @Zoomzoom is so awesome, she just sent E a book by a Canadian astronaut for her birthday - Chris Hadfield’s The Darkest Dark so excited to read it!!
I hope she loves it! I think the cover is supposed to glow in the dark.
We read it today (I couldn't wait, oops) and it may be the most perfect book for her ever! Aside from the obvious perk of space and becoming an astronaut, the main story is of being afraid of the dark and having to sleep in your own bed which is A Thing for us right now. Absolute perfect timing, couldn't have chosen a better book!! She also looooved seeing the pictures at the end of the book with the real Chris Hadfield and seeing that he was a real little boy who grew up to be a real astronaut.
I'm so glad.
I am just here to say I brought chips & queso over to the coffee table over five minutes ago and M has not stolen one chip. #besthusbandever
FUCK YEAH I’M A CICERONE
