You guys are totally opposing the spirit of the thread. If I could afford it, I'd have all this shit in here and run my entire house remotely from my phone. Skynet just wants to help.
I need to find something else to plug into my WiFi plugs now that the tree and lights are done. Since we added a couple switches I want to change them all so I never have to go back to turn off a light again.
See, you get me. (What’s really bad about this is ours has a timer that I’m too lazy to set, every time I unplug it.)
I don't know what coffee makers do, I'm a tea granny over here. Is there anything that can cook my bacon for me?
I love the weird things I think it's hilarious. We plan on getting smart switches and stuff for all around the house.
Our Echos low-key scare the shit out of me at nighttime. When those stories came out about Alex creepily laughing I had a hard time sleeping because I was paranoid. But I'm also one of those people who sprint up stairs so that nothing grabs my ankles. That being said... I love all our smart switches and have zero plans of unplugging!
I want the smart switches that have their own app (we dont have an echo or anything to link to) but its so expensive! Maybe we just have an abnormally high number of light switches per room haha We have a camera doorbell thats part of our security system. My favorite thing is the pictures it snaps of the delivery people. They have made some A+ derp faces.
My co-worker has a Furbo. When I am tired of working I have her turn on the app so I can see her doggos.
Haha I love that! Our spy cam is down for some reason today (I suspect Mookie) and I am sad at not getting to check on the kitties (and also it seems that our robot vacuum got into some kind of trouble so I wish I could check on him too).
@CoolWife ooo thats much better than the prices I was seeing! $50 a light switch is a no go for me haha
Um yeah that's bonkers. I'll pay $5 - $15 and take it with me when I move. Switches - we bought them for $25/2, and one of them was defective, but the replacement Amazon sent (in like a day) worked just fine, so. Plugs - according to my history these were a lighting deal when we bought them apparently
We have D-link cameras so we can check in the animals. The vacuum has an app too. Sometimes it will stop or say it's stuck and I've found that by forcing it to go back and forth and turning a little each time will often free it and it will finish. It apparently got stuck in our bathroom and I managed to free it even though I couldn't see it on the camera when I did that. I could just tell when I got home because it had been trapped on the bathmat.
I've never thought of trying to make ours go in a different direction! I will try that next time when I can tell that he's stuck.
Y'all trust your robot vacuums and pets a lot more than I do. The Roomba only gets run when someone is home around here. I'm always worried that it will catch the cord for a lamp, break the bulb, Indy will cut herself on the broken glass, and I'll come home to blood everywhere and an injured pup. Or something along those lines. Have I ever mentioned that I struggle with anxiety?
There’s a horrible but really funny twitter story somewhere from a guy whose roomba ran through dog diarrhea at the beginning of its 3am run. I think you’re being very smart here.
@Comet My bigger fear is the cat will vomit or get scared and crap on the floor and it’ll get tracked everywhere, but the premise is the same.
