What in the world would you ever need your fridge to be WiFi connected for? I honestly don't know.
I thinks ours you can set temperatures and such? I'm not sure. C set it up on his phone apparently but I don't think he ever uses the features. Personally I wouldn't get one of the ones with a tablet built in.
I hate the crushed ice. It takes forever and then dumps a ton in your cup and all over. C1 uses it and we always get surprised with all the little pieces when we want normal ice.
Hmmm good to know. I just thought it would be a nice feature for frozen drinks, easier to blend up and such!
I too hate the crushed ice, it almost always makes a mess as it comes out too. I’d be all over uniform Sonic-style ice balls though!
Our ice tastes weird. We’ve cleaned the ice tray multiple times and it still has a slightly weird taste though the water is fine.
Good to know, eliminating GE from the options.
Really leaning towards a specific LG fridge. I found it at a local outlet with a small dent in the upper right corner of the door...for $700 cheaper than new. Worth it?
Pics of fridge with dent:
@Erie ours is a dent and scratch! It has a small dent on the side and we never notice. Works fine! (Ours is a samsung and its great except the ice maker freezes up so cannot recommend our specific model. That's not related to the dent though!).
I was hoping to find one with only dents on the side but this one is on the front. I feel like it's small enough to not really matter, but it is a final sale with no returns unless something is "unrepairable" and not just cosmetic. It's an hour drive away and we'd rather not walk into a store right now to go look in person.
Put a magnet on it!
I don't hate that idea at all.
K is worried it could lead to issues down the road if whatever created that dent also damaged the insulation/interior of the door? I don't know.
Worth it to pay the extra for brand new you mean? That's where I'm leaning bc they are also bundling dishwashers and ovens for more discounts...and we do need all new appliances anyway. Just isn't like, super super urgent.
I just discovered I can have an oven that has an air fryer setting!!! I am way too excited about appliances right now.
I meant worth the savings, but not if it’ll bug you forever.
Gonna ask our handyman his thoughts, if he’s dealt with that store before and what he thinks as far as quality goes!
Another thing to think about for new vs. dent is what the cost would look like to get the matching pieces later, unless you are ok with them not being the same brand/whatever. Like if you get a fridge, dishwasher, and oven deal, would that be cheaper overall than the cheap fridge and full price dishwasher/oven? Would you try to get the other pieces from the scratch and dent place? What if they don’t have the same brand/style later? Etc.
It’s the identical fridge just with that small dent! I’d probably still get the same/matching other appliances.
The cheaper one/dented one is also not returnable. They will exchange for store credit if there is something actually wrong with it that they deem “unrepairable” so if it didn’t fit for some reason...
I’d take that dent in exchange for $700! It looks really small and you could easily stick a couple magnets, a photo or a FL AF postcard over it!
Our stainless in our prior place was dented by the last tenant. It drove me crazy.
I think I'm now leaning towards a Whirlpool fridge. Found it at the same outlet in a dented model for $1000 less than new and the dented model only has a tiny dent on the side (where we'd never see it). Finding out how much our handyman would charge for doing the water line and installing, the new $1000 more option includes that.
Have also bought dented fridge from Sears Outlet. Saved $1400 and had no issues at all with it!
We have a french door fridge with freezer drawer now. I hate the freezer drawer, but it's fine. We also have a cheese freezer in the basement and a garage fridge/freezer so we can spread out which helps make the drawer bearable. Stuff still gets buried though - but it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.
The only appliance I think I'd want wifi for is the oven..it'd be so convenient to be at the store, choose something that needs to bake and start the oven when I get to my car to preheat!
YES I told a friend that I feel like WiFi could be useful for an oven...tell google to preheat it when my hands are gross while prepping, or the situation you mentioned!
Wifi appliances are another way to be hacked.
