Jeff Goldblum watching my kid get intubated is seared in my brain, one of the most traumatic things ever. How could you think “it’ll be fine” when given the chance to avoid it?
C1 got his second shot this week and he’s so pumped about it.

Our hospital will not let any guests in without a negative test within the last 72hrs. If your family member is here for longer than 3 days, you have to get tested again. Cue all the fucking bitching, but what gets me are the NICU PARENTS complaining. Rent a brain cell to try and figure shit out.

In other news, I am now officially known to be leaving at the end of Feb. I thought I'd be sadder, but I'm mostly relieved.

P and the other chemistry faculty have been working hard on a tight timeline to find/hire a new faculty person. It's been a month of daily crap including phone and in-person interviews, everyone meeting each finalist, and too many meetings to count.

The dean just shot down their top preference because "he's too bland" and "won't excite the chemistry students." Excuse me but wut? Why the hell didn't you mention that this one factor is THAT important to you?

That's super annoying! Maybe the dean should do all the work of finding someone then.

Yeah, when I took chem NOTHING could have gotten me excited about it. I was taking those classes only because they were requirements. Incidentally, my most interesting chem professor was a hoot, but a fucking terrible teacher.

Some deans are such egocentric dicks.

Ngl. I'm sorely tempted to apply to plant shops and nurseries when I'm done with Fresno.

I’ve always thought working at a florist would be so great. Real work but making people happy and flowers everywhere.

Today in information patients weirdly get wrong - their own legal married status. We don't ask nor care about complicated situations, just whether the mother is legally married to someone.

I'm in covidland today. We have shelves that the nurses have repurposed as homes for our face shields. Today, one of the shelves has a guest. I'm amused and confused.

I'm somehow both surprised and not surprised that we've come to this. Winter is over. The heat from my and friends' collective anger will melt all the snow.

Per the CA Dept of Public Health:
    • From January 8, 2022 until February 1, 2022, HCP who test positive for SARS-CoV-2 and are asymptomatic, may return to work immediately without isolation and without testing, and HCPs who have been exposed and are asymptomatic may return to work immediately without quarantine and without testing. These HCPs must wear an N95 respirator for source control.
The hospitals have already gotten to the point of not even bothering to tell us if we've been exposed while not wearing N95s. So I guess fuck us, fuck our families, and really, fuck our patients.

@Lh718 CA is making really fucked up decisions right now. Apparently the governor said schools have to stay open no matter what so we should hire whoever to cover the classes (there’s a huge teacher shortage due to quarantining right now). Like, ok thanks for basically calling us babysitters who don’t need any kind of training to do the job. Obviously this is not as bad as telling health care workers to go to work with covid but still frustrating.
Hayward is virtual this week because of staff shortages. They took a risk doing it because we don’t have permission from the state. The state could potentially fine us over $13 million for this. I would hope that they would understand the circumstances but after what the governor said, I’m not holding my breath.
