I think we need a Beer Appreciation Thread in the food/drink forum...but apparently I'm too lazy to start one.

Yesterday J bought the Shocktop Winter Pack...there is a Schocklate (chocolate) Wheat, Honey Bourbon Wheat, and Pretzel Wheat (these may or may not be the correct names). The beers are delicious. They taste like Tootsie Rolls, Werther's (or some sort of salted caramel), and pretzels. They are basically dessert beers. I want to drink them all the time (due to their tastiness). I definitely recommend them!

Fuck laziness. Welcome to your new thread.

Yes Pina! I so wanted to try the pretzel one, but didn't want to pony up for the whole 12 pack because I wasn't sure if I would like them all. You may have convinced me to take the plunge...

Damn, thank you for plugging those beers, pina. I want all of them. Sam Adams had a chocolate cherry bock last year that was fantastic. Chocolate cake beer, YUM.

Mmmm, I'll need to get that winter pack of pleasure.

Honey, I bet you're in your glory at World Market.

Didn't Sam have a vanilla cherry wheat one year? I liked that because I enjoy fruity beer.

Speaking of, Schöfferhofer Grapefruit is my favorite shandy ever. The Beer Advocate reviews probably tell you how little I know about beer, though.

They let me take home wine to taste, so I haven't really started on the beer yet. I need to do one of those make-your-own six packs, though. I've been meaning to try that Angry Orchard apple ginger cider forever.

My recent obsession is New Belgium's Le Terroir dry hopped sour beer. Sours are really hit or miss but this one is fantastic.

    For protein?

  11. It's good, but not as good as I'd hoped it would be. Worth a try, though.

That grandfather whatever angry orchard tastes like flowers and it's BAD.

The Cinnful angry orchard is equally disgusting, sadly.

:cringe: I can't even bring myself to try that one.

I tried that one last weekend. No bueno.

I had no intention of trying it. I asked M to get me some cider before a party, and that's what he brought home. I drank half of one and dumped the rest.

I think the Ginger one is a lot better than the Cinnful one. The cinnful one tasted like a cinnamon candle. I can't stand fake cinnamon though.

Z bought a Leinenkugel's fall sampler, I've been drinking the cranberry ginger shandy like there's no tomorrow. So good.

I drank one of those earlier, Badger! I bought a 6 pack of just that shandy.

I love all their sampler packs. So good.

I normally don't like Leinie's which is blasphemy in the NW, since I grew up a half hour away from where it's brewed. This is good though.

Haha thanks, Honey. It was a combination of laziness & mild inebriation (rough Monday). And then I had no idea you moved my post, so I got really confused and though that maybe I hadn't submitted it.

SM & Marge---definitely take the plunge and get the pack, it's totally worth it!

Oh the Cinnful is teeeeeeeeeeeeeerrible. I'm glad we're talking ciders on here too because I'm obsessed. I liked the one with elderflower in it, but I'm also obsessed with elderflower, so there's that.

If non-New Englanders can find these, I highly recommend Down East Cider (regular apple and apple cranberry) and Bantam Wunderkind. They're kind of polar opposites, Down East tastes like actual apple cider, but has booze, and Wunderkind is finished with a champagne yeast and is tart in just the right way. If you can get Strongbow on tap that is also excellent (not as pleased with how it is bottled/canned).
