I'm sad he didn't get more traction. I hope the eventual nominee takes up some of his criminal justice reform ideas.

Recently, my boss (a 60ish, gay woman) got a large promotion, and so my responsibility has also increased. We have a potentially high profile, high stress project that I've initiated and driven for several years, which now involves collaboration with another group that is led by a man. This man likes to act in a paternal way toward me, and sometimes that includes him thoroughly criticizing my work veering into personal attacks and the administration of unwelcome "advice". I asked my boss for help managing those interactions, because even though I put on a tough face it freaking hurts me personally and reduces productivity.

I got a long lecture which was so disappointing and discouraging. I asked her why so much of her advice was focused on how to mollify and non-committally evade. Most of her suggestions centered on immediately apologizing, admitting fault, or expressing deference to dissuade him or remove the "fun" from attacking me. Why is *the advice* all about the gymnastics I have to do? The answer is just to grey rock all the bad men? Is that it? I was expecting... something different. She is so strong and so successful and I'm crushed that the answer to bad men bringing out big sledgehammers to crush women that defend themselves and their ideas is to pacify and dodge.

Which is a long story boring to say that I can't wait to sport my Warren wear "Impolite arogant women make history" t-shirt. At work. Fuck it!

I also got the Billionaire Tears mug.

That’s really demoralizing, I’m sorry. I’ve been eyeing that mug also.
Also the Emily McDowell one that says “give me a refill, the patriarchy isn’t going to fight itself!”

@ClamJam That sucks, I wish your boss had your back more and a better way of handling the situation. It reminds me of the Julia Child bio book I read recently where one of her protégés went to France to work/learn from a high-profile chef and finally worked up the courage to tell Julia the sexually aggressive treatment she was receiving. Julia told her to buck up, that’s how they are and you just have to persevere.

It’s startling because you see these strong amazing women breaking barriers and then they say shit like that.

You guys, I realized today that *I* will be on the 2020 Democratic primary ballot! (For my ward, in my city, in my state, so, you know, not in a widespread way ). I’m on the city democratic committee and I vaguely understood that we’d all have to be officially voted in on a ballot but I didn’t know it was on THE BALLOT! And yes, through official or sketchy means, I will be getting some extra ballots for posterity: Baby’s First Ballot Position.

You should frame one! Maybe use some acrylic paint to circle-and-arrow your name, you know, for clarity.

This would be particularly funny / gratifying because W is also on the ballot so one of those arrows would go through his name to mine. (There are enough slots for the committee that we aren’t really competing; that said, I think I’d win.)
