Uh, well, so far, I will accept tips* to reduce humping behavior.

*he is not fixed yet, but AC does that right before they get adopted out, so I would have to pay for the whole surgery myself (in addition to the stuff of his i’ve already said I would pay for) if I wanted him fixed right now.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but getting him fixed won't necessarily fix the problem. He has to be trained out of the behavior.

Does he know any tricks, even basic ones? Redirect by asking for sit/down/paw and give treats. I know some of the more amorous males can be very, determined, so if there is a second person who can break his focus with a squeaky toy or something and then ask for tricks and reward with treats. If he's going in for it you can try to redirect with treats and a squeaky toy.

I think it’s excitement more than anything, which gives me hope for improvement. He does respond to no. He knows very little in the way of manners and so far no tricks, but he’s clearly eager to please, so I think training should be pretty good with him.

He can’t figure out getting on the couch yet, so when he wants human contact he lays on rooster’s foot and it is Too Pure

I had to show J that video of him not knowing how to couch. Too cute! Watched many times.

Murphy was a very determined humper when he was younger (he especially liked to hump both dog and human heads ). We just redirected over and over with a toy to try to break the connection between excitement and humping. I know his daycare would redirect and sometimes separate him for a minute to calm down before letting him back in with the other dogs.

My Maggie humps ... I’m still not sure where she learned it from. She started doing it before any of the males in her puppy class started.

Redirecting kind of works, but when she’s particularly excited she’ll keep twerking.

Odin air humps when he gets overly excited. Nobody else is ever involved, so I usually just let him dance it out.

Logan air humps the cats when they are laying on the living room rug. But at least he stopped humping me and the kids. We just tell him no and then ask him to sit.

Indy had a bunch of imaging today because we are still battling this paw infection (going on three months now!) and we keep getting some elevated levels on her blood work. Chest & paw x-rays looked clear and the only thing of note on the abdominal ultrasound was a slight dilation of her right kidney, but that's to be expected with her early kidney disease. The vet is sending all the images to a radiologist to make sure she didn't miss anything, but yay for no obvious issues!!!

We are sending off a culture of the cells on her paw and waiting for urinalysis results still, but I'm so relieved. I've been anxiously waiting for the vet to call all day and hoping she wasn't going to tell me she found a huge tumor or something.

Sorry @HBC , comprehension fail on my part. I read it like you were considering paying out of pocket to get him fixed. Ryder's only humped for one evening ever because he was so excited to have me back home that first weekend. Stern no the getting up and walking away and turning my back to him if he followed worked well to stop it.

I know. They gave her a cytopoint injection at her last appointment and that seems to be helping more than anything else we've tried. Between this paw stuff/a million meds & vet visits and the stress of adding C to our family, poor girl has grayed so, so much in the last couple of months. She looks like a little old lady pup now. I really hope this culture helps us figure out what's going on so we can finally get it resolved.

Well, yes, technically. I guess we just had communication crossing. His nuts aren’t the full reason for the humping, i’m sure, but they aren’t helping. Normally (and this is a personal choice, not a requirement for foster) we take on all the expenses for a foster, including medicine and vet care. With magnolia’s TECA on Monday costing twice what the primary vet thought it might, our money is going to be pretty tight for a while and I don’t think we can afford to pay for his neuter right now.
