Diaper rash cream.
We use A&D with every diaper change, and Desitin if there’s a rash.
Hydrocortisone 1%. Stick on any eczema spots, aquaphor on top, heals super fast (caveat, Js eczema was minor and presented as little patches that looked like ringworm. Not a serious case). Lotrimin might be good too, if there is a yeast diaper rash.
Plus one for Tylenol (dye free), gripe water, humidifier, saline/nose Frieda. Rectal thermometer. Humidifier is a good one, too.
We didn’t use a whole lot in the beginning, and a lot of things I got went unused.
What we used or would have used had we known about it:
- Nail clippers (These are our favorites and we still use them. Rubis Baby Nail Scissors in Elephant Shaped Pouch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002X1KF0E/?tag=danmel-20 )
- Unscented Boogie Wipes
- Nose Frida
- Vitamin D drops if you’re nursing
- Infant Ibuprofen or something similar
- Baby wash (we use Aveeno but I’m sure there’s better stuff out there)
- Diaper cream (unfortunately only Nystatin worked with Fry and it’s prescription, but any zinc-oxide based cream should be fine)
If you have a kid with eczema (hopefully you don’t, but just in case it comes up)
- Curel Itch Defense Lotiom (thank you to the chicken who recommended it!)
- Water Wipes as baby wipes
I have a butt thermometer, infant tylenol, baby benadryl, nail clippers, and GSE concentrate (grapefruit seed extract). Diaper wipes. Paper towels. (a lot of paper towels) We also have the Nose Frieda, but haven't used it. And my MIL got a scale which has been invaluable to make sure she is staying on weight.
The GSE we actually use heavily diluted in water for anything fungal. It knocked her thrush on its butt in 2 days, whereas whatever we had her on before (something prescription) never cleared it up. We just recently used it on her diaper rash (with her ped's approval) and it cleared that up too. It absolutely has to be diluted heavily though.
I think I've recommended these before. For car rides these water coloring books are the best. We're 4 hours incan to a drive and we brought several. So far they're keeping S entertained.
S loves these too! She'll do the whole thing in one sitting. They're not a car option for us though because she gets car sick.
Those things are the best.
Hmm. I feel like maybe I bought one of those for our nephew and forgot to give it to him? Ofc D thinks $3 is a waste and won’t even let C open the new Cars themed coloring/sticker pack until he scribbled every page in the Snoopy book.
Add this as another good reason J doesn't share my Amazon account.
We do a lot of board games. My friend bought S Hoot Owl Hoot. It's great and he loves it. Highly recommend.
For those of you also drowning in Matchbox cars, this fits them perfectly

I can second that.
Hm. Looks like it might also be good for blind bag surprise toys....
We bought two of those and organized the cars.
For six minutes total, and thEn G got to them AGAIN.
Those would help keep them from getting nicked up but we’d need a lot of them.
You can double layer flatter cars.
For any chickens who waited/struggled for their baby to join the family, I recommend Wish by Matthew Cordell for your chick's library. Such a sweet board book and I got a little misty-eyed reading it to T.
Are you familiar with the branded Cars die casts? Slightly larger size/width. Would they fit?
I think? I’ll ask D of Lightning fits, but I think he does.
(My son is so deprived he just has the one Lightning McQueen tho. He pretends that his Fairlady Z is Jackson Storm.)
Collecting the Cars characters was like my pet project. So needless to say, we have a lot. And I'd kind of like to preserve them, as he rarely plays with them anymore.
I have one of those! it's Vern, the taxi.
D and I met Vern himself, the owner of Vern's Taxi in Sonoma, when he drove us to a wedding. Somehow we got on the subject of Disney (surprising, right?), and Vern talked about how he and John Lasseter were old friends and he got a nod in the movie. Vern also picked us up from the wedding that night, and drove us by Lasseter's house on the way back to our hotel. It was fun, so we bought Vern's car to remember him.
That’s such a cool story!
Lightning fits. Slightly wider cars should be ok; some of the longer ones do at an angle.
We just bought this for L and she is immediately obsessed. Now I want the stupid house but it’s $134!
