Oh honey. Oh gosh. @Apples&Oranges you are so funny. I mean what do you as a PARENT call S’s kindergarten teacher like when you have to email her one on one?

I didn’t know any teachers didn’t go by the customary Mr./Mrs./Ms.

ETA: So you’re also saying she might appreciate an email greeting her with her first name? She’s signed emails both.

Oh, sorry, I meant that I call her Mrs. Last Name too. If she signed emails with her first name, I would call her that in emails (but still Mrs. Last Name in person, if that's how she's addressed in the classroom) but she always goes by Mrs. Last Name or First Last name in emails, which to me, I take as her wanting to be called Mrs. Last Name.

It's definitely a more progressive thing to go by first names. I was surprised by it the first time I was in a proper elementary school (as opposed to preschool/daycare like you said), but I've seen it a few times now. I think the trend will shift eventually, depending on the neighborhood.

P got her report card yesterday. 3's across the board on a scale of 1-4. She got a couple of 4's last trimester, and I know she's still doing great, but in the back of my mind I'm wondering what changed!? We celebrated with root beer floats.

ETA: It's really surreal listening to her read a book. She has a pretty good flow for a first grader. My baby can read. o_O

Ahhh! Has she started reading your texts yet? Fuck my life! I need to clean my act up.

Today J came down with a sneaky look on his face and goes, "I'm going to make everyone smile today."

And then he pulled this shirt out from behind his back.

LOL! He can read his clothes!

@TaterTot That's freakin precious. Yes, she can read texts. I almost ended her life last weekend. I caught her straight up going through my phone. She got a HUGE lecture on privacy.

Isnt it fucking nuts??? I'm constantly blown away at how well S can read. She's not super fluent yet like P is, but she's level D (for anyone who's school also goes by reading levels) and she does look over my shoulder and try to read my texts lolol One day I was making a dinner list and she says "why did you write pizza?" Nothing is sacred anymore. But I love it!

But that's awesome P is doing so well!!

Got an email from the mom of a classmate of S's asking us to send in $10-20 each tomorrow for the teacher to pass to the child so that the parent can purchase a class giftcard for the teacher for Friday. Um, wut? First of all, that seems a little steep if everyone is contributing. And also, why would I just randomly give cash to a person I dont know to buy a gift card? Not even a joint gift or anything. No thanks. I'll just give her a giftcard myself. This is weird, right? Or is it just me?

No thats for sure weird. Who made her gift card queen? I could see a PTA person letting people know a group gift was an OPTION, but this sounds like more of an expectation. Also yes $20 per kid in a class of like 25 would be $500! Thats a crazy kindergarten class gift!

Mind your business, Karen. I can get my own gifts.

I hate these kind of ringleader parents.

A half assed ring leader too. You can come up with something better if we're all going in on something if you didnt wait until 2 days before kindergarten graduation.

Eta: and I'm annoyed she has my email address. Teacher didnt BCC parents on some emails. Not that I have a reason to care other than simply wanting to keep my privacy

Jokes on me. Apparently getting a giftcard is hard. I went to the pharmacy and they only had specific ones in stock (lowes, Kmart, olive garden, etc). Tried to grocery store, none. Tried the gas station and they o ly had gas gift cards. Told J to pick one up. He got her a $50 gift card :bored:. Oh well. I guess we look rich and generous.

That is an epic backfire. May you be handsomely rewarded in some other intangible way.

T loves to read touchy-feely sensory books. She's achieving a good level of comprehension too! She will now take my hand or J's and guide it to the different textures of the pages.

This makes me miss baby and toddler A and B. A loved the Paperbag Princess and always insisted the princess was poopy, not dirty.

So while I’ve been looking for a new school to send M to I played around with the idea of sending him to Challenger which I thought was a charter school but maybe it’s full on private.

Anyway, one of my friends was like “oh, maybe look into that a little more because they have a huge billboard off the highway that says “freedom of speech is more important than your feelings.” on it.”

So I do some digging...guys, look at this.

Then someone else chimes in and goes yeah on their application it asks you what your views on socialism are. What in the fresh hell.

Ummmm, how about no. They have their own curriculum? That makes me worried about what they are teaching these kids.

Their website doesn’t mention this huge bias so I was pretty shocked. I wonder how many progressive parents are sending their kids here not realizing how much money they’re donating to this POS organization.

I don't get it. If I saw that on a job posting, I'd be so confused. Does "original" mean no amendments at all? So black people and women have no rights? Or how is our freedom of speech under attack? This is wacky.
