@Rico Suave cars movie on the phone that A was holding up for him hahhaha
Yup, I let C watch the tablet while I cut his hair. He’s getting pretty good about it but still get squirmy when his neck starts to itch.
Stopped by a new local taproom that’s in a bottle shop and they didn’t have the beer we wanted to try so the owner gave us a VIP card which gives us 10% off all our in house and packaged to go beer every time we’re here!!!
K has been talking about making cinnamon rolls from scratch for a while. He decided that his Christmas/New Years break is the right time. There’s dough proving in the kitchen right now, he’s going to roll it out before bed so we will be able to put them in the oven tomorrow morning!
Mmmmm I love homemade cinnamon buns. My uncle made a bunch for Christmas brunch and I ate so many lol.
Paired them with a cinnamon roll stout!
Reaching ultimate contentment levels--all the Harry Potter films are on Sky Cinema now, I have these homey cookies my parents brought, A is making hot chocolate, and we were given a snuggly blanket for Christmas. Just don't remind me I have work again tomorrow.
1000 blessings upon @HBC who first (I think) introduced me to butter bells. I just used the one I got for Christmas and omg my butter. It’s so smooth. It spreads so nicely.
Soft butter is a LUXURY
this might be a weird brag, but I'm going for it.
I hate going to get my hair done. It genuinely is on the same level as teeth cleaning for me. I don't understand why people say it is relaxing. I hate sitting in front of a mirror for hours (full highlights and a cut) and I just can't make small talk for that long. Eventually I end up sort of sitting there in awkward silence and it just sucks. Then I feel this obligation to act over the top about how much I love it when it's done. So as a result, I put off going.
Whelp, I decided I wanted to do something fun with my hair over the holidays and opted to dye it purple. Dark colours don't usually last long in my hair (even permanent dyes) so I knew it would likely wash out over a few weeks and then I could dye it blonde again for an upcoming wedding. My ends were FRIED from not having been cut for 15 months and I guess I was feeling brave and decided to just cut it myself before dying it. So I chopped about 2 inches off and made sure to include a few layers then went to work on the dye. Turns out that purple really did not agree with my hair and it ended up coming out sort of like a dusty grey/blonde with some purple undertones. I was disappointed at first, but now I kind of love it.
On top of that, people keep asking me if I had my hair done over the holidays and saying how much they like it. So far I have resisted the urge to tell them that this is a kitchen scissors 2 minute self-cut and a failed self dye.
That is so impressive to me, as someone who struggles to trim bangs lol.
God I HATE getting my hair done too. I really resent making time for it and yes, the small talk is horrible. I usually read a book after about 15 minutes of chatting but then I feel like an awkward asshole. I’m strongly considering just dying it back to my natural color and accepting a flat, ashy shade. At least I won’t be in the chair for 3 hours ever 8 weeks.
I book my appointments for 8:15am. Neither of us want to talk so it's a win/win.
I go to a salon that has beer and wine. It helps.
I cut my own hair, too. Long layers in straight and wavy hair are dead easy to manage, and then I don’t have to talk to anyone.
My brother lives in China and he often misses the food from home, although he pretends he doesn’t. His birthday is in a few days and his girlfriend just sent me a message asking for the recipe for the apple crisp my mom made us growing up.
I’m so happy he has someone who loves him like she loves him.
Omg, my SIL just texted me that they are expecting! It's still very early but I'm so excited that C is going to have a cousin close to his age.
So far today I have: run a 5k without exacerbating the nerve damage in my hands (and finished the race!); completed four loads of laundry; and did our taxes.
My period showed up early, and right when I really needed it. I know it sounds weird, but the universe deserves a shout-out for this one.
I got to be a speaker to a business law class at our large urban high school for Career Day today. I was super nervous but the kids were all engaged and asked good questions and two of them came up to me after with more questions and to ask for my business card. Young people are so energizing, you guys
THIS THIS THIS. I have a retreat with 80 college students this weekend and while it is a logistical PITA sometimes I'm so excited to participate.
K resigned from his job today, starts his new one on March 2. It’s based out of Chicago so I plan to join him on one of his trips up later this year! I’m so excited for him, he’s been miserable for the past year or two but didn’t want to really take that next step of finding a new job until recently. I hope it ends up being a good change for him!
Way to go K!
Awesome for K! Let me know when you come up!!
for sure! I won’t be joining him for the early March trip but probably the next one!
