@Vespidae we did Tupperware cleaning this weekend. Aka we are recycling it all and I bought one new, SMALL set & starting over.

    Fuck I hate Tupperware

Since this is a 3 day weekend for us we’re doing the weekend thing today. We plan to go through all our cabinets and pots/pans/etc and do a first purge of everything we want to not move, either sell or donate it. And make a list of what else we plan to do the same with right before we move but we want to hold on to for right now.

We cleaned out our basement storage over the weekend and now C keeps being thrown off when he goes in there because there's so much space.

I’m still using plastic ones to pack to lunch because they’re light.

My Tupperware cabinet legit fills me with rage every time I open it. We really need to do a big purge and buy one manageable set when we move. Eventually I’d love to switch over to all glass Pyrex.

We really need some new furniture and I’m considering selling most of ours before the move. I’m thinking maybe we can buy a bunch of stuff from a chain here and have it delivered in CT when we get there. We need to replace our mattress, couch, coffee table, and dressers/nightstands. Also, we won’t have a guest room in CT so we’ve got a guest bed that we can sell. That’s a lot of big, bulky furniture N wouldn’t have to wrestle into and out of a moving truck.

Just need to have a few days where I don’t spend every minute feeling nauseous and with a splitting headache so we can do some shopping. See also: packing. This weekend we had big plans to spend Saturday at Disney and then spend a couple days getting some serious packing done. Instead I have been miserable in bed for 3 days. (N did do some packing on his own, with frequent comments from a very uptight peanut gallery, bless him.)

We recently purged and got new tupperware but bought the same exact set we had, just newer. I really want all glass pyrex but I can't carry it to work so I'd need plastic anyway and we don't have room/need for more than 1 set.

I have glass ones for storing my meals at home, and I love them. It’s just what I carry to work that i’m still using plastic.

I'm stealing my mom's Pyrex one piece at a time. Every time someone flies here she sends cheesecake in it for A. I just haven't returned any of it. I would have but now I use them.

I recently organized my stuff, and I had all the matching pieces and everything, but the cabinet I have them in just isn't good for it. A lot of stuff is stacked, and the lids are in the big popcorn bowl, for example, so when I make popcorn I have to take everything out to get it and then have a pile of lids with no home. I need to put additional shelving in a few of my cabinets, I just haven't got to it yet. It's on the list.

Walmart always has a good Pyrex set on sale on black Friday. We bought 2 lady year and I love it. We have plastic trays with lids that P takes his lunch in but I need to send all of the other plastic to recycling.

It’s a dream of mine to have a cabinet made for Tupperware. Our cabinet stinks too.

I’m pretty sure most of the stuff we had wasn’t even ours, at least. R side of the fam sends home food like it’s going out of style.

Most of our Tupperware is the plastic Chinese take out containers... I do have a few better ones that I use for lunches, and some glass dishes. But the glass is heavy and it doesn't stack well.

I'm not planning a get together. Maybe I'll have my parents over for dinner but weekends have been reserved for lazy time right now. I napped with S for 3 hours on Saturday and 3 hours on Sunday. It was glorious.

We ended up purging all of our tupperware (half take-out containers, half containers lifted from B's parents filled with leftovers from family dinnah) on Saturday. I found moth larvae in one and went "BURN IT ALL TO THE GROUND!" Bought a starter pack of Pyrex and I already feel more grown-up.

We just purged all our Rubbermaid and replaced it with Pyrex (yay Costco, two box sets). Which reminds me I forgot my lunch.
Of course D is trying to save some of the Rubbermaid “for tools and screws and stuff.” I told him end of the month and it gets recycled or donated. I’m already ruthless with the takeout containers. They don’t stack with what we have, they get pitched.

Finally offloaded our elliptical! At the last minute (literally 5 minutes before he got to my place) the guy buying it asked if he could pay less. I said yes because I just wanted it gone, but it was sort of a jerk move on his part. Whatever, the important thing is that it's no longer taking up valuable space in our apartment!

M agreed that once his lab gets past their big grant deadline we can tackle the disaster zone that is our bedroom.

I'm not doing the "remove decorations from your living room" thing. Fuck you, I love my action figure movie memorabilia clutter. No shame.

I spent time going through some boxes this weekend (still not fully unpacked after 2 years...) and actually threw things out. I tend to hang onto things (even if they're just hidden away in storage), so I'm very proud of myself for starting to purge.

It's going to be a multi step process (can't get rid of everything at once), but I'm finally in a place where I'm ready to let go of some of my old stuff.

You’re inspiring to get my stuff into gear. I’ve been putting off the annual sort ‘n stash.

I have two laundry baskets of clothes that were pulled from the guest room.

I haven't worn or thought about them in a year.

I sorted through and threw out quite a few things but have about half the items left that I was like "Oooh! I remember this!"

I should just toss them, right?

    *For toss/throw out read: donate
  21. Yes, definitely! Unless you could realistically see yourself wearing it in the next year what is the point, really? (I mean apart from like, a suit or something for a really specific occasion).

We are in the process of this too and it's so hard to get rid of some of my clothes. But I haven't worn some of these in years, it's ridiculous! Unless I am ruthless nothing will leave this house due to my hoarder tendencies.

Honestly a lot of it is wishful thinking. There are a few things that are worth keeping (the missing top to a pajama set I love, a dress that got lost in the bottom of an overnight bag) but most of it is too small for me, even pre-pregnancy. It's just so hard to bite the bullet and toss.

Would you feel better if those items went to someone you know? My friends and I do a clothing swap every now and then - we bring snacks and drinks and everyone gets monopoly money to "bid" on things. It's a lot of fun actually. Maybe you could put together something like that?

  24. I'm just trying to focus on how good it will feel to have a clear house. I told myself I wasn't allowed to start buying any cute baby things for the nursery until it was totally cleared out.

We started with the hall cupboard yesterday, which is quite large (like box room size but no windows and lots of pipes) and bulging so much that the door doesn't even shut. Once I got about 3ft deep it was just empty cardboard boxes from tv's, kitchen appliances and the like. Some of which we don't even own anymore. Why???

I spent 3 hours on Saturday cleaning through boxes of stuff. And entire box was nothing but TV/computer cords that aren’t used anymore.

Sometimes (most times) I just want to throw everything out and start from scratch.
