I’m gonna hang on to it. Part of me was like, fuck it, get the cash and get your hair done. But it’s easily stored. Maybe I’ll wait until my 50th birthday and have a dinner.

For some reason I AM feeling emotional about this. My grandfather died when I was 8 and I loved him dearly. I was always much closer to my dads parents than I’ve ever been to him.

What do you guys do about birthday and Christmas cards? I had been slapping them into straightforward scrapbooks (no deocorations, literally just the cards), but I never go back and look at them. But I feel so damn guilty throwing them away.

If a birthday card from someone in my immediate family particularly moves me, I will save it in my nightstand with my old journals. Otherwise, trash. I've never saved a Christmas card.

Ones from my parents, sister, and C are all in a file folder.. I don't know what to do with them but because I'm sentimental I can't seem to get rid of them. They're probably going to end up in a box in storage if I'm honest.

I keep photo Christmas cards (and wedding invitations and baby announcements) in a box in my desk. Anything store bought gets thrown away every January. I do the same thing as Tater for birthday cards. I keep Valentine's/anniversary cards from M in my night stand too.

Sorry, everybody. The only cards I've ever saved are @lrrr's hand-drawn ones.

I save ones with messages that I want to keep (my grandma typed a letter in my birthday card this year), especially from A. Otherwise we just recycle them.

My parents still have up my Christmas card from last year when we did our photocard from the wedding.

I've never saved a card...but I'm also not very sentimental and not super close to my family. I'd imagine if I had kids I would save certain things, but nah.

I thought that too but you wouldn't believe the amount of shit P brings home daily. Basically the only thing I've saved is whatever has managed to stay on the fridge and her report card.

Rooster is so fucking sentimental. He has every Christmas, birthday, random event card ever given to him, as well as the ticket stub from every movie he’s ever seen. They have moved with us multiple times. He’s also “saved” cards that were given to me from people (I keep the ones from him) I’ve thrown out.

I would toss every card I ever get. R is much more sentimental, so much so that I got him a small wood box for cards and crap... it bothers me less if there’s a dedicated storage box for them rather than left on a counter or stuffed in a drawer.

I have a decorative box and I keep sentimental cards and momentos in that. When it gets full I make an effort to cull the herd. When it’s TRULY full it basically goes into storage. The current one always lives on the bottom of one of my bookshelves.

    I do this

I should probably sort through my cards and try to get rid of some.

We are a card family--like, we used to write lonnnnnnnnnnnng messages in birthday cards to each other and it was just expected. Because they were special my mom saved all the cards given from us kids to my parents since childhood and you know what she did? Last year she took the whole box and threw it away without even sorting through. So I guess she's not that sentimental after all lol.

...secretly I wish she would have told me first and I would have taken them to sort through but it's probably good she didn't. I don't need more shit at our house.

I recycle them after a week or two. M saves his, and then I probably end up recycling them after months and just telling him to deal with it. We did keep all of our wedding cards, though, because that's more of a once-in-a-lifetime thing and many of them had really nice messages in them.

Oh yes, we kept our wedding cards as well.

I kept our wedding cards but come to think of it I haven't seen them since we moved a year ago.

I thiiiiink we kept our wedding cards?

We’ve also kept cards we’ve given to each other. And I keep the odd thoughtful one, maybe 1-2 a year.

  21. We keep cards we give to each other, but everything else is recycling. Apart from one wedding card I can't bear to part from. My mum's friend hand made us a card that is so over the top it makes me laugh every time I look at it, so that one stays.

P is incredibly sentimental on top of being a bit of a hoarder. One solution that has worked really well is to take high res pictures of whatever before tossing or donating. I got him to clear out three dresser drawers of old racing and college t-shirts and memorabilia that way, for example. Maybe that could also work for old cards.

We kept all our wedding cards, but they're just in a box right now. I need to figure out something to do with all our wedding stuff, because I don't like that it's just in a box.

I keep all the cards from A, but I'm getting better about keeping other cards. Early last year I went thru and threw out a bunch of cards, I only kept ones with sentimental messages inside or if they were obviously from an important time.

Loved the weekend fridge cleaning. Hate the mountain of tupperware and dishes I now have to wash.

So we generally don’t keep too much clutter but we are trying to get rid of the plastic in our kitchen/any food or drink related plastic that we can. We threw away most of our plastic tupperware and its so nice to get rid of that mess of mismatched lids and stained containers. We are still keeping some because we only have so much glass tupperware right now.
