    I just have to say that sports subreddits are my favorite thing right now because it’s all highlights and jokes.

    Watching Athlete A. It is super disturbing, but so well done.

    I turned on hulu to watch this and got sucked into a Jon Benet doc instead. I will watch it today probably though after bed.

    (Also figured out Athlete A is only on Netflix, will have to re-up for a month so I can watch).

    I was able to keep it together until the survivor impact statements.

    I thought I knew a lot about what happened until I watched it. So many people still need to go to jail.

    I'm about 25% in and I'm very glad so many people know that Steve Penny is complete trash.

    There is so much more that they didn't get to. If you are interested, the podcast Believed is also about this and is very well done.

    @nym711 I don’t understand how the Karolyis weren’t arrested.

    Also as someone more in the gymnastics community, were insiders/fans shocked when Maggie didnt make the 16 team? I was curious while watching it if people were surprised.

    eta- and I am glad Maggie’s coach hearing that convo stepped in to alert her parents and the org, but is it not weird she didnt question why it was taking so long for something to be done?

    @whatchyagonnado no, she couldn't come back from injury that quickly. She didn't fit Marta's puzzle. Even the alternates fit the puzzle. She was offered the non-traveling alternate role which she declined (I would have too).

    If she were competing now, the national team coordinator would take her as an alternate since she finished 6th. He isn't as strategic and wants to be fair, probably because there is a long history of gymnasts getting screwed over
    in this country.

    Rumors are that Marta is in Romania and Bela is near death.

    I do think Maggie's coach is given too much credit. She was a mandatory reporter, but at the same time, she trusted the organization.

    Anyway, the current president is better, but let's not give her a gold star or anything at this point. She is a sports marketer and comes from the NBA. I have not seen USA Gymnastics' response to this, but I heard that it is not good.

    We watched it the other night. SO MANY people failed these girls. It's horrifying.

    @nym711 yea I think so far they just said they stand with the victims. If it was just their tweeted statement it was pretty empty/PR and people were pissed.

    @Imabug1002 It's even worst than the documentary could even cover. MSU, Geddert's, "missing" medical records, etc, etc.

    I knew about (some of) the MSU stuff from watching At the Heart of Gold (or maybe another show, but I think it was this) but didn't know about the medical records. Besides the podcast, are there any other documentaries or anything you reccommend?

    Not specifically because I've kept up with it since I listen to Gymcastic and I lurk on a few gymnastics groups/forums.

    @whatchyagonnado I did. Her former coach is still pretty big at USAG, and her gym is really close to Hill's, but they don't talk. That says a lot.

    Yeah I’m not sure USAG can be reformed. This seems like another “burn it all down and start over” situation.

    Mega yikes. Yea I find it telling Maggie still seems close with her coach and that coach has 1/2 other big names on her roster now. Which is to say, she def fucked up, but it seems shes likely not one of the verbally/physically abusive ones at least. Sad thats the bar though. My former coworker’s daughter was really high ranking in her state for her age group (11?) and I should text her and ask what she thinks of all of this.

    I'm pretty sure Steve Rybacki is still there. Jamie Dantzscher did not have great things to say about him.

    @nym711 :sad:

    Also I wish the movie had another few minutes with the journalists. I know its not THEIR story and obviously the victims/Dt/prosecutor all deserved the focus but I just find how they started this massive case fascinating. Also wish they would have included the judge owning Nassar.
