    Thanks, all!

It’s absolutely crazy to think that I joined y’all when I was still in college, scared and convinced I wouldn’t find anyone to be my friend in grad school and now I’m an actual adult with a husband and 6 weeks of clinicals between me and my MD.

@shakespeer Would you be willing to share which cities? Totally understand if no.

    Sure!

Minneapolis, Burlington, Ann Arbor, Cleveland, Madison are our top 5 (not in that order). I also have 9 more programs I ranked and interviewed at, but those are what I’m most excited about.

Bummer, none that I ever visit except Minneapolis.

I also interviewed at places I will not rank so there’s that.

A program director literally gave me a 4-minute speech about what my accent could be.

I have a speech impediment. I work with kids, who are great at “you’re not the same as me,” so I have a little speech I give when people ask about my voice that lets them off the hook and doesn’t make anyone embarrassed.

Still had to sit through 4 minutes of a dude being like “well, it could be Boston but maybe more New York?” when like, dude. Just told you it’s a speech impediment and my file, which you’re literally staring at, says I grew up in MN.

    Not ranking there.

I’m training myself to sleep on my back for neck and shoulder health (natural tummy sleeper) and it’s going horribly. I’ve bought two special pillows already and while I can stay on my back with decent results, I don’t sleep very soundly. I keeping waking up at the slightest noise or light, every 10-15 minutes or so.

I’m handling it with my usual grace and aplomb. Last night I had a total meltdown because the eye mask I wanted was under the bed and I couldn’t reach it.

@shakespeer sorry if this is a dumb question, I truly don't know what ranking means in this context?

    No worries.

Basically, to decide where to be a resident you apply to a bunch of programs and interview there. You then make a list of where you want to go (your “rank list”). But that doesn’t mean you get your number one; each place you interviewed at is also ranking all their candidates. It all goes into a computer program and then they “match” you. Or don’t.

Ah, I see, I missed where they're also ranking you. I hope you get one on your wish list!

Omg it’s like sorority recruitment but with much higher stakes.

I'm a side sleeper and I had to do the same thing after my shoulder went funny during the summer. It's better now, but I still have to keep myself on my back to avoid recurrence. I basically sleep in a little fort with pillows and giant stuffed animals all strategically placed around to keep me in place.

They'd be fools to not rank a cheese lover as their #1

Good luck Shakes! I hope you get your #1 choice.

@HBC I’m a stomach sleeper also and have tried sleeping on my back and I just can’t. If I manage to fall asleep, I snore. Ryan is a back sleeper and I’m always like HOW??

Maybe because I yell it at drivers a few times a week.

So good news, because we were bitten by 2016 and 2017 taxes, I made every tax-advantaged move possible but still allowed us to keep the lights on at home and we both claimed Single & 0, we are getting a fuck ton of money back (I think I overcorrected.. but whatever.)

This is more of a @Comet question. I thought I only made one contribution to my DFSA at my previous employer, but it was more. So I put like $5,200 in. I am reporting this via my returns, but is there something else I need to do?

@deet were the contributions via payroll deductions or from after tax money? Either way the 2019 contribution limit was $5000 so you'll need to adjust if you went over that.

Then all you need to do is adjust (increase) taxable income for any contributions over the $5k limit. Pretty sure most filing softwares will plug that in on line 8 of schedule 1. You shouldn't see anything entered on schedule 1, part II for your contributions because they were already taken into account on your W2.

Okay, I will check. I was thinking so, since the deductions are reported on the W-2. I wake up in cold sweats thinking about being audited by the IRS for any little mistake. Thanks, friend :)

Okay, the saga continues. I am not a crazy person, and I know how benefits and tax limits work......... I only ever had $208.33 deposited in my DFSA at my last employer, I just looked. My W2 from that employer shows $416.66. If I deferred another $208.33, happy to pay the tax on it, but I would also like my fucking money, if that's the case.

Do you have or can you access your pay stubs to see what they show?
