LOL! Keeping it in. In my defense, I was just googling the Dolly Parton free book program.
We don’t deserve Dolly
And share with the class what you found @Fitz
Wait do y’all not know about the book program??
@HBC Haven’t looked into it beyond knowing its not offered here. I wanna hear how people who can use ot like it though!
Luckily we have an awesome literacy program here so we have a bookshelf full of books for C we paid 25-50 cents for a piece.
I thought the imagination library/books from birth was nationwide?
Nope, your area has to participate!
None of the zip codes near me participate. The ones that were near me in FL didn’t either.
You haven’t seen all the people on social media complaining about how it’s a “scam” because they can’t have free shit? This is what happens when you delete Facebook.
Not offered in my area either. Boo hiss. No free books x2.
It’s not here either, which just means we’re all too rich and white. The program is focused on increasing literacy in poor communities before expanding to those of us who already have three shelves full of Dr. Seuss.
A lot of the time it’s the local united way that sponsors it, apparently! I’m in love with the program for our community.
@CoolWife Its a little more than that too because I think (but could be wrong!) it goes by county (so rich and poor areas together) and any charity in that county can sponsor it, not just like Dolly picks where she wants it. The neighboring county (with a high median income on the whole, but definitly poor parts) has it. I think your united way or similar has to sponsor the program. My guess is here at least because we already have a literacy program in place and the united way has a different big initiative they have been working on its not on their list (not to say we shouldn’t have it, I just think its probably logical priority/logistic matters).
@Apples&Oranges one of the articles I clicked on said it was in all of NYC and then they suspended the whole NY program. It didnt say why!
It’s been statewide here for a while, so I guess I’m just used to it.
Yeah our zip code here (some white middle class but also lower income and recent immigrants) can't get it, nor can my work zip code (students and wealthy people).
Our local Kiwanis club sponsors our program. It's wonderful, S loves getting a book in the mail.
I legit giggled out loud at this, especially since it was in response to TEJ writing about people trying to break into her house.
I’m sure I could try to make a sweet Blossom reference but in reality I just can’t spell to save my life.
@JillofallTrades, you spelled it right, but picked the wrong word. "Woe is me" is the phrase you were looking for. "Whoa is me!" is what Joey Lawrence would say.
At least you spelled whoa right. “Woah” makes me cringe.
@Honey woah what?! Have I been spelling it wrong my entire life?
@JillofallTrades the idea of a bro being like WHOA IS ME MAN cracked me up haha Woe is me
Car salesmen be getting crazy out here.
