Thanks @whatchyagonnado and @hellohelloagain, I'll look at the Amazon tablet! The reviews on the leapfrog ones seemed mixed so I'm glad I asked.

If anyone is looking at Melissa and Doug toys, they are doing free shipping over $49 and you can also use code JUST4SF for 40% off everything on their website.

My dad likes things like Ticket to Ride and Careers. Does anyone have insight on if Pandemic or Catan would be a better gift? I have no experience playing those.

Pandemic I guess? Catan is more fun between those two, IMO.

Pandemic is cooperative (everyone playing vs the game), Catan is each for themselves. I love cooperative games (Betrayal on House on the Hill is my favorite because it starts cooperative then becomes all players against one), but Catan is very fun.

I’m weird because I don’t like that House On The Hill game but literally everyone else in my friend group is obsessed.

My vote is Catan though I think Pandemic would probably be a good choice as well. Catan is more similar to Ticket, but Pandemic will widen his game exposure. A bit more complex, but one of my favourite games is Castles of Burgundy.

Can I have your fiends? Our group didn’t care for it.

BIL’s girlfriend just got a new dog and BIL said she’s wanting things for the dog. I got a couple of dog-centric things, but want to get her something. So what are some good good human-focused gift that goes with the dog stuff?

Check Dogs Being Basic and Grounds & Hounds. I got M a "World's Best Dog Dad" mug from DBB a couple of years ago.

Eta: dog books too. My faves are Merle's Door by Ted Kerasote and A Big Little Life by Dean Koontz.

Does the city she lives in have a dog group? My city (and a couple others) has an association that sells brewery passports to dog-friendly breweries and t-shirts/apparel that raise money for local rescues.

If she’s got a solo pup, maybe a tumbler that says “Bruno’s Mom” or whatever?

Also just realized I’m wearing a T-shirt right now that says dog mom.

I recommend the “dog mom AF” shirt (and I need to find mine...)

Advice for best play food set? E has a big play kitchen and food set and stuff at MIL’s but I wanted to get her a couple of things to have at home. At 2, do you think she’s young for a fake cutting and veggie type set? Or will that confuse her into thinking she can touch knives? She’s got a tea set with a spoon she plays with and yells “Cook! Cook! Cook!”

I see lots of different ones on Amazon, any y’all actually recommend?

Personally I’ve been a really big fan of the soft IKEA sets and have a bunch, but Learning Resources also has some nice quality harder plastic sets. Melissa and Doug are nice too, but I don’t trust my kids not to knock each other out with the wood.

C LOVES the Melissa & Doug pizza kit. For play food I got some at Target that he never really played with.

I didn’t buy these so I don’t know the brand, but L has some that are cut in half with Velcro in the middle and she loves pulling those apart and sticking them back together.

@scotchbutter I can’t necessarily recommend, since she hasn’t opened it yet, but we got C this barbecue set for Christmas since it was on sale and didn’t have 800 pieces that’ll get lost around the house. Pretty much just a hamburger, hot dog, some utensils, and condiments.
